Resource Guarding
Resource guarding behavior is when a dog guards something in their possession. These items can be visually obvious (food, bone, toy) & sometimes not so obvious (space, body, people). When humans come into proximity of the area or item a dog has in their possession, the resulting behavior can look like growling, snapping, lunging or biting in order to keep ownership.
